As part of the global initiative Orchestrating Peace through Music, Diego Carneiro is currently hard at work on a new composition titled Paths to Peace. Like Diego’s earlier compositions, such as “Of the Birds,” it will feature a blend of folk, contemporary classical and cinematic music and sounds of nature.

Paths to Peace will be in three movements:

  1. Conflict — Reflecting global challenges such as war and violence, characterized by dissonant harmonies and intense rhythms

  2. Resolution — A pause for introspection, exploring the impact of human actions and the need for change. Minimalist and melodic elements will symbolize emerging hope.

  3. Rebirth — A celebration of transformation, with ascending harmonies representing unity and reconstruction.

Themes: The Amazon and the Nile Rivers, representing life and connection, will serve as metaphors for the journey towards peace. The Amazon, with its dense forests, and the Nile, with its historical and religious significance, will both feature as central thematic elements in the composition.

Objectives: Paths to Peace strives to be a powerful musical message promoting peace and to inspire and motivate its audience to take action toward a peaceful and sustainable future. Diego says, “Through this work, I aim to use music as a transformative force to raise awareness about peace, environmental preservation, and cultural unity. The piece will be designed to engage listeners emotionally and intellectually, creating an experience that invites reflection and action toward a better world.”

Performances and Legacy: Diego will perform the first movement of Paths to Peace at the inauguration of the new Rotary Peace Center in Istanbul in February 2025. The world premiere of the complete work will be at the annual Rotary International Convention in Calgary, Canada, in June 2025. After that, the work will be published online and performed at other events, ensuring continuous visibility. It is hoped that Paths to Peace will come to serve as an anthem for Rotary’s global peace initiative.

Funding: Contributions to the Paths for Peace project will be used first to cover the costs of composition and presentation of the piece, including the costs of the audio and video that will be an integral part of the performance. Any excess funds will be used to benefit the Orquesta Joven del Ecuador.

Major donors can expect to have their names or logos displayed on projections before or after the performance and to receive credit in printed materials. Contributions can be made on the Donation page of this website.
